Skinwalkers is an American horror and fantasy film from 2006 . However, filming was carried out in Ontario, Canada. The film plot is based on the werewolf mythology.

action

The film tells the story of the 12-year-old boy Timothy, who grows up as a half-orphan with his mother Rachel in a shared apartment with close relatives and friends. The boy does not yet know what mystical secret he has in him: not only human blood flows in his veins, but also that of werewolves. A prophecy predicts that if he experiences the hour of midnight on his 13th birthday, he will be the only one who can use his blood to free the werewolves from their curse.

The werewolves lose their human appearance on a full moon at midnight and transform into wild beasts who have to satisfy their greed for human blood without a will. The group members of the "bad" werewolves enjoy life and the power of their existence. As a motorcycle gang on the road, you do everything possible to kill Timothy before he turns 13.

Only gradually is it revealed to Timothy and his mother that the members of their community also consist of werewolves. In contrast to the "bad" werewolves, however, this group aims to protect the boy so that the curse of the werewolves can be lifted through him. In order not to be a danger to the boy and their surroundings, the "good" werewolves tie themselves up with heavy chains in good time before they are transformed.

From then on, a bitter battle rages between the two fronts for the boy's (survival) life. The group around the boy, led by Jonas, his uncle, tries to escape from their pursuers on the motorcycles with a truck. The two groups duel each other several times in wild shootings that claim fatalities, so that the group around the boy is getting smaller and smaller. In addition, Katherine, a member of the "good" werewolves, is captured and tortured by the opposing side. Although she is able to free herself, she mutates too early into a werewolf the following night and thus becomes a deadly danger for the group around Timothy.

Soon afterwards it turns out that Varek, the leader of the "evil" werewolves, is Timothy's supposedly dead father Caleb, although this unexpected realization does not prevent him from wanting to kill his own son.

On the night before Timothy's 13th birthday, the last fight for life and death between the remaining opponents, who have already mutated back into werewolves, takes place in an abandoned factory hall. As a werewolf, Jonas is also a danger to Timothy, so that he is shot in self-defense by Timothy's mother Rachel. In the end, Varek manages to bite Timothy in the neck. However, since the hour of midnight has already struck, he is freed from his werewolf existence forever by the blood of his son.

Reviews

  • The internet platform filmstarts.de writes about the film: “Real horror fans get too little horror, action fans only bad action and those who expect a great story should rather look at an older flick like Wolf with Jack Nicholson or the funny ' American Werewolf in Paris '. 'Skinwalkers' is a sub-par patchwork film that does a lot right and a lot wrong [...]. "
  • Cinema judges that the film would unfortunately lack a creepy atmosphere, effective transformations and great choreographed fights. The film is illogical, badly played and contains badly tricked baller orgies.
  • The lexicon of international films certifies that the film is routinely staged, but does not consider it original. The plot is exhausted in non-stop pursuits and shootings.
