Tuborg is a Danish beer brewing company which was founded in 1873 and financed by Carl Frederik Tietgen, focusing on the pilsner style for the Danish market during its early history. It merged with United Breweries in 1894, which then entered into a profit-sharing agreement with Carlsberg in 1903. In 1970, United Breweries was finally acquired by Carlsberg.

Today, they make a lager for global export, as well as a variety of continental styles for both domestic and foreign markets.

The company has recently entered into the Irish market, and have released their pilsner beer in a "six for seven" format which has been proving popular in the country, Dutch Gold being the other prominent "six for seven" beer in Ireland. Recently in some off licences tuborg is been sold for 1 euro a can which has proved very popular in Ireland, the other 1 euro a can is Holandia which s also a very popular beer in Ireland.

Trivia

In an episode of The Simpsons, Moe used the phrase: "Tuborg, the beer of Danish kings!"

The first design for the can had a lizard on the front. It was deemed inappropriate, and scrapped after it was pointed out that lizards rarely consume beer.[citation needed]

Tuborg were the official sponsors of the Download Festival and O2 wireless Festival 2007 and one of the three stages was named the Tuborg Stage because of this. The beer was also readily available at all of the beer tents across the site and was the only beer not to sell out over the whole weekend.
