Re: Your attention

Yeah, the edit summary is misleading. There is no consensus to use line breaks, and my (albeit biased) interpretation is that the more likely outcome is standardization on commas. --PEJL 18:35, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm no expert, but b) I don't think a vandalism warning is appropriate, as this edit isn't vandalism. As for a) there isn't any such policy or guideline that I know of. Such an edit seems slightly more appropriate than the other editor's change though (as that incorrectly implies a consensus exists). Try to avoid getting dragged into an edit war. Better to comment on the user's talk page or even better at Template talk:Infobox Musical artist#Standardizing genre delimiters. (If you do, please try to read through the entire discussion first. I know it's long...) ---PEJL 19:03, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, we'll have to wait and see. --PEJL 19:28, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you bunches!

Thank you so much for suppporting my RfA. I was promoted with a total of (44/1/0) - a vote of confidence from the community that I find humbling and motivating. I will not abuse your trust. Look forward to working with you! (Esprit15d 20:53, 5 November 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Is it worth it?

I understand you are upset with me making the IM page have a line break, which I don't understand, but really, is it worth your while to get me banned because of that? Not only do I think banning me for that is ridiculous, but it is also unneccesarily time-consuming. What harm is it for me to change some pages to line breaks? I'm no troll and you know it, and I'm sure we both know I have things to contribute to wikipedia and I'm no vandal, so why get me banned about such a small issue? Why even worry about it? Especially, when I contribute in other ways and am not a vandal. Navnløs 23:12, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was blocked and I can't help thinking you were instrumental in this action. Also I would like to point out to you that Cannibal Corpse is Jim Carrey's favorite band...it says so on his page right here on wikipedia. Also, I DID NOT break the three revert rule! I reverted it twice today! 165.196.83.17 00:26, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This right here shows that Cannibal Corpse is his favorite band. Well look at that, right here on wikipedia and it's sourced and everything. 165.196.83.17 00:28, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Belated answer to your question

We do not have that book nor do I have access to it through my online "readers" account (a librarian perk). It does read a little bit "too pretty" doesn't it? Not sure what options are out there for investigation. Try the copyvio talk page. 156.34.223.225 01:11, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PS: when you are discussing, what you have been discussing with Edgar and TG and etc... it may help them if you point out "the bold agenda here and here To me, more than the other policy vios... those 2 bold and brazen announcements of a pre-meditated E_war speak as much volume as the the edit history itself. I have been tutoring the young'n on image policy and such. He has responded in a positive way to attempt to understand what WP:FAIR is all about. I do not normally AGF for too many editors (at last count 5 :D ) ... you and Funeral and PEJL being just a few of the only "non-admins" to win my respect :D but I am holding out hope that after a block (or 2) Mr Navalarse will learn how Wiki works. Patience grasshopper, patience... even uber-troll Mr Tic-Tac-Paddy-Wack makes the occasional good edit did I just say that? :D 156.34.223.225 01:25, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am Responding To Your Note

Thank you for the beer offer. I am not a drinker. But I appreciate your fun offer. I don't edit often. When I come to Wikipedia the first thing I do is check the Iron Maiden article (my favorite band) to see if its been vandalized. I had noticed that user's edit war the other day. He had been issued a warning but never reported to an administrator. I did a 3RR report but nothing happened. I've also seen the same style of edits from a different user who has been very uncivil. The other user had a request for comment case created about them because they broke the no personal attacks rule along with a few others. Because that other user has ignored warnings and continued their attacks I reported them on the administrators noticeboard yesterday afternoon but so far my report has been ignored. Strangely it has been brought up over on the comment case page that the abusive user might be a sockpuppet for the Iron Maiden edit warrior from yesterday. Maybe my report on the noticeboard will draw some attention the the request for comment case. I play in a band and travel so I won't be back to Wikipedia for a few days. Hopefully there won't be anymore edit wars. 216.21.150.44 11:38, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The X-Files

Thank you for your message. I have reverted once again and begun a discussion of the matter on the talk page. Feel free to add your tuppence worth if it is of interest to you. Cheers! ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 22:37, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppet

Would you stump a sock tag on that Hooks101 editor from the Iron Maiden editor. If he know more than one person is on to him he will abandon it. And then make another one :D... and then... the fun begins again. 156.34.142.110 19:39, 7 November 2007 (UTC) {{Sockpuppet|SEGA}} 156.34.142.110 19:54, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FYI Sock tags can go on the talk page too. 156.34.142.110 20:11, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If the user is... who he says he is... the he needs a lesson in WP:ENGVAR. Mr Darth isnt SEGA... but he has many skeletons of his own including linkspamming.
I can AGF and hear him out... but he should be VP blacklisted (since his previous account was too) 156.34.142.110 20:11, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just to add. I can AGF... but it is thin... very thin. I run a script to highlight "certain" usernames in the recent changes window... it's how I get around so fast when it comes to vandals. The user has pleaded his case. But I am adding their name to my reader for future reference. With SEGA's IP active again I am not turning a blind eye to any new "red name" user accounts. If SEGA slips past then Wikipedia is at risk of being filled with copyvio. (his major crime) There were 2 users who were very diligent in SEGA hunting. One is on hiatus and the other took a 1 week Wikibreak back in January and has never returned (I will assume they have quit). So its up to a new crew to keep him at bay. If I made a mistake today then I am sorry for leading you down the path of Wiki-police brutality :D . But, like I said, until SEGA's IPs are re-blocked... I am trusting no one. 156.34.142.110 20:40, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

HAHAHA!!!! And then again... That has to be the funniest F_up I've seen in awhile. You may go ahead and nail him for who he is Mr S. I will add his "Hooks" name to the list of naughty puppets!. Isn't Wikipedia fun :D . 156.34.142.110 20:45, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is that hilarious or what!!!!! I've always thought SEGA was shifty and dishonest... but never stupid. My AGF wasn't going to allow too much freedom for him anyways. His edits today weren't overly destructive. He will be back. Add every single article even remotely related to Phish to your watchlist.(his favourite) He already been editing them in the last few days as... "Kevin". But he hasn't crossed the line yet. So just keep watch. THAT was just funny!!!!!!! 156.34.142.110 20:54, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SEGA?

How many people editing the Iron maiden pages are going to be accused of being SEGA? I edited the Maiden pages over the summer under the account User:Darthrya but I am not this banned user, and some guy with just an IP address as a name is erasing all of my work! Help! re: Airports

I've never been through an airport in a country where the first language wasn't English.... I just assume they are all the same. Security at Heathrow is tight. Just do as you're told... keep your passport and boarding passes together and at quick and easy access to show whoever asks for it. If you have no connector flights... just get on at Heathrow... get off at Strauss... presumably in Hall B.(Terminal 1) Follow the other passengers on your flight... look at the overhead signs saying customs...baggage... etc. Again.. have your passport handy to show to whoever asks (keep it in your front pants pocket-not you baggage)... All signs / paths / walkways / escalators / etc lead you to the Arrivals exit area. And then your in the land of the big beer mugs. 156.34.220.50 03:06, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PS wanna see a history of "how to get permanently banned?". This will bring you up to speed on our topic from earlier today...Wikipedia:Requests_for_checkuser/Case/SEGA. "turn down the suck" :D . 156.34.209.0 03:56, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

210.54.245.44 et al

210.54.245.44 is back from his ban.

FYI, I filed a checkuser: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_checkuser/Case/Concerned_cynic

The actual checkuser hasn't been done yet, but 83.138.145.18, who continued 210.54.245.44's edit war after 210.54.245.44 and Rabidly Placid were both banned, has been blocked as an open proxy. --Pleasantville 21:33, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When you can spare a moment for assistance

I just did 2 speedies and a prod. Since I don't have a watchlist(and my self-controlled allowment of 8 "must watch" watch windows is full)... could you keep an eye that the 3 candidates for the abyss don't get un-speedied or unprod'd without good reason/repair. THe prod could be an AfD... but it's a holiday today in Canada and I am feeling lazy and surly :D . 156.34.213.204 13:10, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was just going to message and say hold that AfD. They are notable... they just have a really bad article trying to convey that message :D . Through my librarian digital library snooping... it turns out I actually have access to every single release the band ever did. In fact, I could have them all by tomorrow morning if I wanted... and... since I am a bit of a proggy fan... and... since I've never heard this band... I intend to do just that. :D . Who knows, if it turns out they are good... I could make them the library "underground pick of the week" and they could end up being a huge success in my region. It pays to advertise on Wikipedia :D . Thanks for your digging! 156.34.217.117 19:56, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just adding some closure to this conversation. I got a bunch of Jadis albums today. They push heavily toward getting all the common modern "prog stereotypes" in as often as possible. They are not unlistenable. But they do not offer anything to listen to that I haven't heard... better... from someone else. They lean towards the "lookin' for a hit" side of prog instead of the "lookin' to stretch artistic boundaries" side of prog. They won't be my library "pink of the week"... but I won't say "yuck" if someone asks about them. 156.34.227.140 23:21, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is your own band in your "library pink of the week"? :-D ScarianTalk 23:25, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Here's one for ya!

Keep an eye on Vigier Guitars. It's total advertising. The company itself is a very notable guitar manufacturer with several endorsed user o their roster. They certainly warrant a Wiki page but the article currently is not written like an encyclopedia article... it is an advert. I tagged it but the creator (who edits as both an IP and as "VigierX") rm'd the advert template. To make matters worse the user is also uploading copvio images from the manufacturer's website... claiming "self-made"... and placing these images on Commons. I've alerted Betacommand to the source of the images and their illegal placement on Commons. Could you watch the article and see if it improves any... at least enough to rm the {advert} tag. Thanks! 156.34.142.110 15:01, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WOW!... after posting Betacommand and then byt the time I came here to message you... the copyvio uploads went POOF!!!. I expect several admins watch Betacommand's talk page... so... for now... all clean... image-wise anyways. I bet you a 3 dollar bill that the user uploads his images again. :D . And I will add another 3 dollar bill that the advert tag gets deleted. Cheers! 156.34.142.110 15:08, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've hacked at it... that Timeline section that I renamed to History needs a tag that says there isn't enough prose... I can't remember the coding for it. But anyway, I've gotten rid of most/all of the poorly written stuff. I haven't looked thoroughly through the timeline bit. I've removed all of the dead images and added a bunch of tags etc. See what you think. ScarianTalk 15:54, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I hacked some more. The timeline has to be converted to a standard paragraph so your prose tag is good. I was hoping the COI IP would start to help out in a positive way... but so far its nothing but peacocks. :D . 156.34.142.110 16:58, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Darker than dark

My only real comment about the entire Cradle of Filth thingy is that Dark metal is an uncited make-believe fairy-tale "wish I was but I'm not" genre wannabe and it could probably be put up as an AfD. There are close to 2 dozen heavy metal subgenres that A) are genres... B)Are unverifiable and C) only exist in the minds of greasy haired, pimple faced Wikipidiots. :D . 156.34.227.140 23:35, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Look, I know metal and I know genres. I'm not even saying dark metal is a tru genre, because it isn't, though it may be one day. It is an umbrella term referring to certain bands that mix gothic metal along with certain black metal elements. Rotting Christ once did this on a few of their mid era albums (unfortunately), and instead of saying oh that was gothic metal and melodic black metal, someone could say it's dark metal. It's a bad "genre" anyway. Navnløs 23:44, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kurt Cobain

After giving them the final warning, you can report the vandals to WP:AIV. They'll be blocked. I've also semi-protected the page for a week. utcursch | talk 16:44, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wanna be a peanut gallery?

Read and enjoy the edit history and the talk page chat happening here. I enlisted the help of Mr Funeral on this one. You, as always, are most welcomed to chime into our peanut gallery and your comments would be great (and likely entertaining too :D ). The edit-adversary in this case is one of those typical "level 4 basket weavers" who suffer from a terminal case of "music impairment". we've come across a lot of those lately haven't we :D It's not a pressing matter. Wiki isn't built in a day. But an extra set of eyes making sure that any Funeral/Libs "2 step forwards" don't get rv'd into "3 step backs" Have a nice day! 156.34.210.198 02:08, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wonder why Sybex4 (talk · contribs) is suddenly deciding to blank the current conversations over at Arena rock. What's the warning "subst:" for tampering with talk pages? 156.34.142.110 18:34, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Libs [the 156.34 I.P. is incredibly experienced] and he is usually never wrong." Anyway, I almost didnt believe him when he said that he had over 50000 edits, but Ill take your word for it.

"Basically, the article is badly sourced [That's not an impression on your ability - so don't worry]." Actually, to be honest, I do need a better understanding of WP:RS.

"Try not to take the comments on the article's discussion page too personally... Just try and keep a cool head in the future" Sadly, Im a hothead here on Wikipedia. Im a LOTmore laid back in real life, but not on Wiki.

I actually asked Libs to rewrite the article again.

All right, man. Thanks for the advice. Prepare to be Mezmerized! :D 20:00, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have 'over' 50000 edits? But I am close to 50K. Over 20K as a logged in user and close to 30K after I rejected my old account. Be wary of countitis!!! it's a dangerous addiction. I don't think the Arena rock article needs to be reverted anywhere. It needs what content that is currently there scraped down and built back up with reliable sources. The most important thing to clarify is the "not a genre" element. All Wiki articles just take time, research, patience and several non-illegal sedatives and a stiff snort of CC. 156.34.219.206 23:02, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I count 3 reversions in the last 24 hours, so I've given him a final warning. However, since it is the same edit, it could be construed as edit warring. Is there any consensus on the talk page as far as the reversions between the IP and the registered user about the casing of the genre? I would look, but I figure you have been watching the article. the_undertow talk 23:50, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Scarian, do you possibly realize the irony of the situation. What is your golden rule?? Hmmm? "Don't fix it if it's not broken." Right, you're breaking your rule. The JP page had line breaks for the longest time and someone came along recently a few weeks ago and changed it to comma breaks and I reverted them and since then your friend with the IP address has taken a crusade against me. The page wasn't broken!! Navnløs 23:53, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article, like many articles, has been corrected based on the example shown at the template instruction page. Scarian, Funeral, Skeeker, myself + many others have rv'd this article at one time or another trying to maintain this correction. The template example shows a comma being used. The example shown is what users are to base their edits on. So many editors rv'ing to the same correction = consensus on Wikipedia. One editor rv'ing four = edit warrior. 156.34.219.206 23:59, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've tried to AGF. But this is stalking. Too bad too. I was working hard to carry on a decent conversation with our young editor. 156.34.219.206 00:44, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Need you assistance

First read User_talk:Rlevse#A user you blocked for 1 month is active as an IP. Compiling pamparison evidence between the 2 is easy. I just need a sandbox to do it in. Can you create a userpage sandbox for this? I will be "on the move" throughout the moring so I will only be able to add to it in dribs and drabs. Compiling a WP:SSP for this one should be a piece of cake. I just need an easel to work on my art before I submit it to the gallery. 156.34.219.206 10:49, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is it okay if I do it in about 20 minutes time? There is a block on me accessing that link for some reason so I gotta find a different computer. I'll do it then! See you soon! ScarianTalk 10:56, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Your cmt to Undertow. The users edits for the JP page have nothing really to do with how long breaks or commas have been used. Which ever was there before... it was corrected because the example shown at the template page uses commas. This example is there for all users to follow. And it has been quoted numerous times in the edit summary. But 2(3 if you count tic tac) do not think users should follow the example given in a case of WP:IGNORE. It's not POV on the users part. It's a single purpose agenda or a WP:POINT that he's trying to push. Just wanted to pont that out since it seems to get lost in the mix. :D 156.34.219.206 11:12, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- There you go! And Re: to the above: Should I remove that and then point out WP:POINT? ScarianTalk 11:17, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I can't add anything to it as that would be "creating an article" which anons can't do. 156.34.142.110 14:34, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

Just ignore it. I'm going to warn him about his incivility. ScarianTalk 11:32, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:MOS

Where did he go right? Twsx cannot quote any statement from any guideline on wikipedia that supports comma separated value in genre infoboxes. There is no consensus on this subjet so changing (dozens of) articles is POV pushing and disruptive. Kameejl (Talk) 15:03, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
