National Public School, Indiranagar, is the sister institution of National Public School Rajajinagar. It was started in 1982 by Dr. K.P. Gopalakrishna, chairman, National Educational Trust, following the success of the Rajajinagar school. In January 2007, the school celebrated its 25th anniversary (silver jubilee).

About the school

The school is an English medium co-educational school affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Government of India and follows the 10+2 educational pattern. It has 3 buildings. They are -

  • The main block (houses classes 4 to 10, the computer and science labs)
  • The montessori block (houses montessori and kindergarten sections, classes 1 to 3, the art room, the theatre workshop and the auditorium)
  • The senior secondary block (houses classes 11 and 12, the maths lab and the OHP room)

The School runs two early learning programs, the Montessori and Kindergarten systems. At the senior secondary level, students are offered the option of studying either Science (PCMB or PCMCs) or Commerce (with the option of Mathematics or IP). Each grade level has three sections, each comprising no more than 40 students. In the annual Outlook magazine ratings, the school was placed second in the city and fifth in the nation. [1]

The school mandates the study of Hindi from class 1 as a 2nd language, while Sanskrit is taught from class 5 as a 3rd language. In class 9, students have the option of studying either Hindi or Sanskrit as their 2nd language. Kannada is not part of the curriculum at any stage.

The Houses

Students are admitted to one of the four houses in Class 1. They are

  • Challengers (Maroon)
  • Explorers (Purple)
  • Pioneers (Orange)
  • Voyagers (Cyan)

Each house has its distinct identity, and while the inter house events like sports, quiz, debate etc. are quite competitive, students are not too concerned about their houses as such and concentrate more on working as a school. At the end of the academic year, the house with the most points is awarded the House Cup.

School Events

The school organises 3 triannual inter school events. They are

  • Engenius (English fest)
  • Mathrix (Maths fest)
  • Innowaves (Commerce fest)

Usually the students of the school are not allowed to participate in the fests, but are involved in their organisation and volunteering.

The school also organises 3 triannual intra school events. They are

  • Tarang/Festoons (Annual Day)
  • Heats n Feats (Sports Day)
  • Milestones (Science Exhibition)

All students of the school put their wholehearted effort in performing their best in all these 3 events.

During the last week of June every year, the Investiture ceremony is held wherein the School Prefect and Vice Prefect, the Sports Captain and Vice Captain, the house captains and vice captains and the presidents and secretaries of the various associations in the school are nominated.

Towards the end of the academic year, the Flag Handing Over Ceremony is held wherein the prefect and the captains hand over charge to their deputies for the rest of the academic year. The house cup is also given to the winning house during the ceremony.

There are also events for Teachers Day, Childrens Day, Independence Day etc.

In addition to all this, the school also organises the Graduation Day in the month of February every year for the passing out batch of class 12.

Academic standards

The school always produces 100% distinction results in the AISSE and AISSCE examinations, with the highest aggregates often crossing 98%. Many students enter the Indian Institutes of Technology, NLSIU,National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Shri Ram College of Commerce and St. Stephen's College each year. An increasing number of students are entering institutes of higher education overseas. In recent years, students have entered Princeton University, Cornell University, California Institute of Technology, the London School of Economics,NTU, UPenn and the National University of Singapore amongst others.A few "NPSites" have won international awards in environmental sciences, [2] [3], neurological sciences [4], and international olympiads [5]. Students consistently excel in quizzing [6] [7], debating [8], creative writing events [9]etc. in various inter school fests at the city, state, national and international level. Many students of the school also secure the prestigious NTSE and KVPY scholarships every year.

Sports Facilities

The sports facilities in the school are quite bad, with only athletics, basketball, volleyball and throwball being encouraged (although there are cricket and football teams). Nevertheless, the school sports teams (except for cricket and football) have done well at the city level.
