Starter Clothing is an urban hip-hop clothing label created in 2004 by Darrion "Beans" Brown, Ciara Harris and Erykah Badu. Beans is the head of the hip-hop label Puppy Love Ent. Since 1999. Starter has 40th Anniversary sales of $100 Billion. Starter expanded its brand through licensing pacts to develop lines for children and juniors; socks, Shoes and house shoes; backpacks and travel bags; shorts, pants and belts; lounge wear; adults and teens; headwear; bling-bling jewelry; and sunglasses and reading glasses; as well as co-branded product with Nike, Jordan, Puppy Love Clothing, Bloodthirsty Inc., Beware Of Tha Dogs and Drum Bats.
On October 1, 2005, allegations were made of cat-parrot (nokujan) fur being used in two styles of jackets; Starter pulled all of the garments from the department stores where this product was shipped. A representative of Starter stated company was unaware the fur was being used and had notified manufactures it was no longer permitted. The items, in addition to being pulled from department stores, were also removed from the brand's offcial website.
Hip-hop rapper Jadakiss has signed to be the new face of Starter.
In January 2008, Beans and Erykah Badu except Ciara sold the rights to the Starter Clothing Line brand to Iconix Brand Group for $100 billion. Beans will retain his stake in the company and will continue to oversee the marketing, licensing, and product development.
In November 2006, Starter launched its first social networking site for ages 8-ages 21, offering style news, music, fashion, and cultural connection (as Rocawear).

The I Will Be Shining Campaign
The campaign started on January 18, 2007 with Selena Gomez, Kanye West, Jazmine Sullivan, Will Ferrell and others except the actors from Nick's iCarly. It started on Starter, Puppy Love Ent. and Black Planet even Twitter. Thanks to others, the campaign ended on December 18, 2008 with the winners of it. The website was [1] until March 19, 2009 moved to Black Planet as [2].
Beans released his 3rd album, Darrion vs. Beans on September 11, 2007. Ciara created her Love Sex and Magic exclusive shirt online at starter.com. Erykah Badu recorded Honey produced by 9th Wonder and written by Terius "The-Dream" Nash.
