Lazar Dokić (27 September 1845, in Belgrade – 13 December 1893, in Opatija), was a Serbian doctor a professor of anatomy, a one-time tutor of future King Alexander and president of the Council of State, he served as Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Serbia from April to December 1893.[1]

Biography

He finished elementary school and gymnasium in Belgrade. He studied medicine in Vienna and Prague . He worked as a county doctor in Uzice for fifteen years, and in the war with Turkey, 1877/88. He was a military doctor of the Šumadija Corps.

On April 1 1893, the minor King Alexander Obrenović, while dining with members of the Regency, supported by the army and government members, proclaimed himself king and took the royal powers. [2] The outcome of the coup d’état was the collapse of the Regency and of the cabinet.[3]

The young ruler appointed Lazar Dokić, his former professor (member of the Radical Party but friendly with the Court), as President With the exception of the Ministry of the Military, the cabinet of Lazar Dokić was purely Radical [4]

He died on December 1 1893.
