Bakugan Battle Brawlers (爆丸バトルブローラーズ, Bakugan Batoru Burōrāzu) is a television series based on Bakugan, a strategic card game played with magnetic, spring-loaded marbles from Sega Toys and Spin Master. The show had its U.S debut on Cartoon Network on February 24, 2008, at 9:00PM after the airing of Pokémon: The Rise of Darkrai.

The show is a co-production from Nelvana Limited, Spin Master, Sega Toys, Sega Corporation, TMS Entertainment, and Japan Vistec, the last two of which provide the show's animation.

Story

One day, cards began to fall from the sky and were picked up by kids all over the world. The cards featured different creatures(which could be reached by saying "field open" to start a battle), different environments, and different powers. Kids created a popular battle game of course, called "Bakugan" not knowing that these cards actually corresponded to an alternate world called Vestroia where several real "Bakugan" live.

In Vestroia, a rogue dragon or dragonoid "Bakugan" named Naga lusted for control all because of a crazy human scientist named, Michael, because he gave Naga a card which teleported him to the place where the Silence and Infinity orbs lied, and schemed to seize all of both orb's power for himself. When he tried to absorb the Silence orb first and seize its power, the negative energy proved too much for Naga to handle. The negative energy exploded and the Infinity Core fell to earth. The creatures of Vestroia started to emerge in Bakugan battles. Now it is up to "Pyrus Dan" and the other Battle Brawlers to find the Infinity Core and reunite it with the Silent Core to restore balance. At the same time, an evil darkus Bakugan player called Masquerade is taking away Bakugan that belong to other people and sending them to the "doom dimension", a place where bakugan go when they lose a fight when a doom card is activated and can never return. As well, a scientist called Michael Gehahbich disappeared into Vestroia. When he returned 6 months later, he came back as a creature known as Hal-G, half Bakugan-half human. Hal-G is plotting to reunite Naga with the Infinity Core to take over the world. Dan, Runo, Marrucho, Julie, Shun, Alice, and later, Joe must use their powerful "Bakugan" to stop the likes of Masquerade and Hal-G from getting the Infinity Core so it doesn't fall into the wrong hands.

Attributes

Bakugan have six attributes: Pyrus (fire), Aquos (water), Subterra (earth), Darkus (dark), Haos (light), and Ventus (wind). In the series, there are also two alternate powers, Silent and Infinity, which act as the "cores" of Vestroia, (the dimension where the Bakugan live), and which can potentially have the power of destruction.

Characters

Brawlers

  • Daniel/Dan Kuso: Dan is the unofficial "leader" of the Bakugan Battle Brawlers. He is a 13 year old boy who is more street smart than book smart and is always looking for adventure. Dan wears his emotions on his sleeve, often arguing with Runo and yet secretly admires her a little. Dan's life revolves around Bakugan, with his greatest ambition being to be the number one ranked Bakugan player in the world. He is the master of the power play and uses fire attributes in battle. Later in episode 38, it is shown that he is ranked 2nd. In addition of being a player, he also developed the rules for the Bakugan games. After defeating Masquerade, Dan is ranked in 1st place. BAKUGAN: DRAGO, ATTRIBUTE: PYRUS.

Shun is a loner and a boy of very few words, yet is willing to help his friends at every turn.BAKUGAN: SKYRESS, ATTRIBUTE: VENTUS.
  • Marucho(マルチョ):For an 11 year old, Marucho is wise beyond his years. He studies the strategy of Bakugan, as well as being a bit of a walking encyclopedia. Marucho is the only son of a millionaire. As a sidekick to Dan, Marucho helps work out which Bakugan would be best to pit against one's opponent. He worries about all of the Brawlers, but especially Dan . Marucho is a master of combination play and uses aquos, the water attribute in battle.BAKUGAN: PREYAS, ATTRIBUTE: AQUOS. He's a master of the darkness attribute. Masquerade is also ranked number 1, and his/her secret identity is Alice Gehahbich. Eventually, his identity is revealed in episodes 38 and 39.
