Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by The Haunted Angel (talk | contribs) at 00:28, 19 March 2007 (→‎Current requests for unprotection: Minor change). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Semi Protection. IP adresses (and some unexperimented users) are changing all the reliable information that I've added in the last weeks. They use unreliable sources or just change the whole articule without a source.

They also change sales, positions and certifications without a source.
Even Nielsen SoundScan sales have been changed them every day [and they're confirmed, there's a source!].

I hope you understand and protect this articule, thanks. I hope this time you can protect it. Kraft. 23:00, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    File:Rank-navy-1-.gif (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Full protect. A legitimate image has been edited by WP:LTA/Roitr and he keeps reverting to his POV fork, currently as Reboti (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). --Dmitry (talkcontibs ) 21:44, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A block would probably do the trick better, assuming a static IP. Prodego talk 21:48, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Roitr has no static IP, and blocking by IP range means blocking half of Israel (which he is aware of and even puts as an argument why there is "no stopping" him. --Dmitry (talkcontibs ) 21:54, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I see. Well, there is no reason that he would just use that one image anyway, so it is probably pointless to protect it. Prodego talk 21:55, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, could you please deal with Botisaf (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) as well (he was engaged with reverting of the said image)?
I don't quite follow the logic why the the protection is pointless. Wouldn't it prevent him from reverting these images to his POV forks? Even if he re-uploads them using a new name (as he did before), at least I will be able to track his modifications to the linked articles, unlike his current reverting actions which are not even shown in my watchlist... --Dmitry (talkcontibs ) 22:12, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    Stephen Twigg (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-protection. Frequent and repeated deletion of the same paragraph by anonymous IPs. 3 different IPs used so far (in 3 days) but looks like the same person. No explanation given. Requests to cease placed on IP user discussion pages independently by both myself and another WP user. Paragraph concerned is an item about the article subject, backed up with citation from BBC News. --Smerus 17:53, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Declined I feel uncomfortable to protect. Although you have tried to contact the user in his talk page, there is not a discussion thread in the talk page. Begin one there, and see if you can contact the user to put his opinion there. However, anyone else can just semiprotect the article to force a discussion if necessary. -- ReyBrujo 18:07, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The IP has deleted that section again since the decline [1]. Prior to that I opened a thread on the article talk and notified the IP of the discussion, as suggested by ReyBrujo. It's a dynamic IP, so sprotecting would be very helpful.KNcyu38 (talkcontribs) 23:12, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

semi-protection High-traffic page for who is perhaps the best-known Egyptian pharaoh after Tutankhamen. A quick survey of the past 50 edits reveals that all but a single exception of anonymous IP contributors either vandalized or experimented on the page. Declined Only two ips vandalized today, none yesterday. I have left warnings in their talk pages, if they do continue, report to WP:AIV and they will be blocked. -- ReyBrujo 17:47, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Declined, all sockpuppets have been banned already, also the board is frequented by administrators, if abuse continue they will surely protect the board themselves. -- ReyBrujo 17:51, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
To clarify; one two edits were done by an IP. This is for the recommendation of semi. Navou banter / contribs 17:57, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. However, two edits is not enough (for me) to semi protect according to the semi protection policy. However, as any of my decisions here, any other administrator can overwrite it if necessary. -- ReyBrujo 18:04, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protect: Long-term persistent vandal repeatedly removing content from the page. Refer to article talk page. Vandal cannot be blocked at WP:AIV due to use of multiple IPs and spacing out of edits (refer to discussions here and here). To be effective, the semi-protection should be placed for a long-term period, expiring in a fortnight or even a month. Kindly do not dismiss this request without reading the mentioned discussions. CounterFX 14:00, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for taking the time to look into the specifics of the situation. I realise that this should have been a case for WP:AIV, but the admin who tackled the issue there refused to block the vandal, and requesting for semi-protection was the only means of preventing further vandalism. Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Mortal Kombat (series) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Page was originally protected in order to prevent Anon users adding spam links to the External Links section. The semi-protect solved the problem, but I believe it is time to remove the protect, as not only is the protect disrupting the primary feature of Wikipedia: "An encyclopedia that anyone can edit", but also the page is easily the most viewed Mortal Kombat page - if it remains protected then this could discourage more anon users from contributing. ≈ The Haunted Angel //The Forest Whispers My Name// 00:27, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    Talk:Birth control (edit | article | history | links | watch | logs)

Request full unprotection. I think the block was overkill: neither User:Lyrl nor I have ever been disciplined for violating 3RR, and we are currently discussing the content issue civilly on both of our talk pages, as well as on the article talk page (if you scroll all the way to the bottom you can see it). There isn't really a problem here. Please unprotect on good faith from two well-behaved editors. Joie de Vivre 23:33, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Declined. This was clearly a revert war. What other "useful edits" is this preventing, since the only edits in the past two days were you two reverting each other? Or is this just a Wrong Version complaint? – Steel 23:39, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
WP:AGF? Did you read our communication to each other? I'm leaving the lab anyway... I just wanted others to not be inconvenienced. Joie de Vivre 23:41, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for significant edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

The current protected version is too lopesided. Please incorporate the following segment which is more balanced and was for long time undisputed among the waring editors.

Reza Shah introduced many socio-economic reforms, reorganizing the army, government administration, and finances. [1] However, his attempts of modernisation reforms have been crticised by some for being "too fast". [2] and "superficial" [3].Under Reza Shah, the social structure continued essentially to be one where a small minority lived off the labors of the rest [4]
