(7973) Koppeschaar is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 29, 1973 by the Dutch research team Cornelis Johannes van Houten , Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels as part of the Palomar-Leiden survey .
The name of the asteroid is derived from the Dutch science author Carl Egon Koppeschaar .
