Álvaro Peña , full name Álvaro Enrique Peña Montero , (born March 8, 1989 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan football player .

Career

The 1.85 meter tall midfielder Peña is the son of José Enrique Peña and twin brother of Agustín Peña . He started his career in the 2009/10 season in the ranks of the Cerro Largo FC team and played ten games (no goal) in the Primera División that season . Then, depending on the sources, he is either involved in the Club Atlético Rentistas or in the reserve team (Formativas) of Nacional Montevideo . From September 2011 to mid-August 2012, Peña played for the second division club Atlético Atenas , where he played 18 games of the Segunda División in the 2011/12 season and scored once in the opposing goal. He then continued his sporting career at Puntarenas FC in Costa Rica , where he scored two goals in seven first division appearances. In mid-February 2013, the Uruguayan first division club Bella Vista signed him , for whom he played four league games in the Clausura and scored two goals. In mid-August 2013 he joined Montedio Yamagata , but was only used in one game (no goal) of the J2 League by the Japanese . From March 2014 until the end of that year he was active in Paraguay with River Plate Asunción . A career station at Deportivo Capiatá followed until mid-September 2015 . For the Paraguayos, he played five personally goalless league games. In the Apertura 2015 Peña was part of the squad of the Uruguayan second division side Boston River and was used in two league matches (no goal) with the Montevideans. In mid-February 2016, he returned to River Plate Asunción, where he was used six times (no goal) in the league. In July 2016, the Rampla Juniors signed him . So far (as of March 9, 2017) his competitive debut there is still pending.
