Árnafjørður [ ˈɔdnaˌfjøːɹʊɹ ] ( Danish : Arnefjord ) is a place in the Faroe Islands on the north island of Borðoy .

The small fishing village of Árnafjørður is surrounded by high mountains and is protected in a bay

Árnafjørður lies on the deep fjord , Árnfjarðavík on the east coast of Borðoy.

Árnafjørður is considered to be one of the places that were already settled in the Faroe Islands when they were conquered in the Viking Age .

In 1875 an abandoned Norwegian ship was stranded here, loaded to the brim with wood. In the treeless Faroe Islands, wood is a very popular building material that always has to be imported (apart from driftwood). The cargo of this ship was auctioned at auction and led to a drastic reduction in wood prices in the Faroe Islands. It is said that this made it possible to build a whole house for 25 crowns.

Árnafjørður school was founded on October 27, 1904 .
