Árni Þór Sigurðsson

Árni Þór Sigurðsson (German transcription Arni Thor Sigurdsson , born July 30, 1960 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic politician ( left-green movement ) and diplomat.

From 1994 to 2007 Árni Þór Sigurðsson was a member of the Reykjavík City Council, which he chaired from 2002 to 2005. Since 2007 he has been a member of the Icelandic parliament Althing for the constituency of Reykjavík-North . He was a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs (chairman from 2009 to 2013), the Icelandic parliamentary delegation to the EFTA and the EEA (chairman from 2009 to 2013) and a member of the joint EU-Iceland parliamentary committee (chairman from 2010 to 2013).

Árni ór Sigurðsson resigned from his parliamentary seat on August 18, 2014, as he was appointed Ambassador in the Icelandic diplomatic service on January 1, 2015. Steinunn Þóra Árnadóttir took his seat in parliament . Since May 1, 2015, he has represented Iceland in the Arctic Council as Senior Arctic Official . In 2018 he was appointed Icelandic Ambassador to Finland . He is also accredited in Estonia , Latvia , Lithuania and Ukraine .
