Árpád Gerecs
Árpád Gerecs , German Arpad Gremsperger (born July 18, 1903 in Zsámbék , German Schambeck , Pest County , Kingdom of Hungary , Austria-Hungary ; † January 27, 1982 in Budapest , People's Republic of Hungary ) was a Hungarian-German chemist.
life and work
Before entering the grammar school in 1913, Gremsperger gave up his German name and from then on had the surname Gerecs. In 1927 he received his diploma as a chemist from the Technical University of Budapest . Gerecs was instrumental in research into carbohydrate chemistry .
From 1938 he worked for the Hungarian pharmaceutical company Chinoin and became its director after the end of the Second World War . From 1941 he worked as a private lecturer. Between 1950 and 1954 he taught as a professor in Szeged . In 1957 Gerecs was appointed head professor of the chair for chemical engineering in Budapest .
Gerecs developed countless drugs such as Ultraseptyl and other antibiotics , and wrote several textbooks.
