The basal leaves are narrowly lanceolate, wavy on the edge and narrow into the stem. The stem leaves have a rounded base and are seated almost encompassing the stem. The numerous flowers are arranged in a more or less dense and long spike. They are blue-violet, 15 to 25 millimeters long and bell-shaped to funnel-shaped. Usually several flowers sit in a leaf corner. The calyx has blunt bays and no appendages. The calyx tips are hairy, lanceolate and about a third as long as the flower.
