Ethiopian Social Democratic Party

The Ethiopian Social Democratic Federal Party ( Amharic ኢትዮጵያ ማህበረ-ዴሞክራሲ ፌደራላዊ ፓርቲ , English "Ethiopian Social Democratic Federal Party" , abbreviation ESDFP ) is a social democratic and federalist oriented political party in Ethiopia .

The leadership of the Ethiopian Social Democratic Federal Party consists of the official party chairman Dr. Beyene Petros , the vice-party chairman Mulu Meja and the general secretary Alema Koira .

In the last legislative elections to the national Ethiopian federal parliament on May 15, 2005, the Ethiopian Social Democratic Federal Party was a member of the opposition electoral and party alliance of the United Ethiopian Democratic Forces . This party alliance jointly won a total of around 52 seats out of a possible 527 seats in the People's House of Representatives .

The leader of the Ethiopian Federal Social Democratic Party, Dr. Beyene Petros, announced in February 2006 that he would like to change the party's official name to the Ethiopian Social Democratic Party . He wanted to emphasize the links between the Ethiopian Federal Social Democratic Party and the traditional social democratic movement in Europe .
