Ågot Valle

Ågot Jorunn Valle (born May 26, 1945 in Levanger ) is a Norwegian politician of the Socialist Left Party (SV). From 1997 to 2009 she was a member of the Norwegian Parliament in Storting and from 2001 to 2005 President of the Odelsting .

Valle was born to Jarle Valle (1908-1960) and Charlotte Lea (1914-2004). She attended a state school for physiotherapy until 1967. From 1968 she worked as a physiotherapist in various institutes. She began to get involved in local politics in the 1970s and in 1979 she moved into the Fylkesting von Hordaland , the provincial parliament. From here she moved to Storting in 1997 . There she was represented for three electoral terms until 2009 for the province of Hordaland. Valle served as vice-chair of the Committee on Family, Culture and Administration from 1997 to 2001. From 2001 to 2005 Valle was President of the Odelsting, one of two chambers of the Storting. She also chaired the Committee on Constitutional Affairs. From 2005 to 2009 she was a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs. She is known as a staunch EU opponent.

Valle was appointed for the 2009-2014 term by the Norwegian Parliament as a member of the Committee for the Award of the Nobel Peace Prize .
