Åkær (formerly Aakjær ) is a scattered settlement near Fly in the Danish region of Midtjylland . It is located 28 km west of Viborg and has been part of the Viborg municipality since 2007 .
It was the birthplace of the Danish writer Jeppe Jensen in 1866, who changed his name to Jeppe Aakjær in 1906 .
The place name Åk (j) ær is made up of kær (marshland, pond) and å (Au) , referring to the Karup Å , which flows north to the Limfjord .
