Åke Leonard Lindman (until 1948 Åke Leonard Järvinen ; born January 11, 1928 in Helsinki , † March 3, 2009 in Espoo ) was a Finnish football player , later director and film actor .

Lindman was initially a football player for the Helsingfors IFK club and was also a defender in the national team that took part in the Helsinki Olympics. He turned down an offer from the English league and instead gave priority to an acting career.

As an actor, Lindman was already known in 1955 through the film The Unknown Soldier (Tuntematon sotilas) ; he was also featured in the German curiosity, Back from Space and two Finnish westerns. Later he could be seen on television as well as in the occasional film role. Lindman also appeared as a director: In 1961 he made his debut with Kertokaa se hänelle… ; his last film, the Battle of Finland (2007), which deals with the continuing war, was known for its realistic war scenarios.

Lindman won the Jussi Award twice , in 1988 for "Best Director" and the "Lifetime Achievement Award" in 2008.
