Åkers IF is a Swedish sports club from Åkers styckebruk , founded in 1918 , which is best known for its ice hockey department . The team plays in Division 2 .

history

Åkers IF was created in 1918 through the merger of IF Svea and Åkers Sportklubb. The ice hockey team took part in the 1940s and 1950s several times in the Swedish championship , which was then still held in cup mode . In the seasons 1946/47 and 1953/54 , the team entered Division 1 , which was the top Swedish division at the time, but was relegated directly back to Division 2, which was then still in second place. In the 1979/80 season, the team played in the now second-rate Division 1, but rose again directly from. Since the 2009/10 season , Åkers IF started in Division 1, which is now third-class. After a temporary relegation, the team is now playing in the fourth-class Division 2 .
