The Romburg even Rumberg , Romberg , Ronburg and Ruwenberg called, is an Outbound hilltop castle on a hill above the Wildschapbachtal in the district of the community Schapbach Bad Rippoldsau-Schapbach in the district of Freudenstadt in Baden-Wuerttemberg .

history

The origin of the castle name is traced back to the Middle High German basic word ron (e) (= tree stump), which is why one can assume that the Ronberg is a mountain on which the forest was cut down (for the purpose of building the castle).

Presumably the castle was related to the Zähringer and could have been the seat of the Counts of Sulz as local rulers around 1220 . The castle was called "Rumberg" in 1309 and was owned by the Lords of Hohengeroldseck in 1315 as "Ruwenberg" (= wooded mountain). In 1467, as a result of a subsequent contracting, the castle was a Strasbourg man fief , before it came under the rule of Fürstenberg in 1490 , after which it was not redeemed by the Geroldseckers. During the 200 years of its existence, it has been mentioned in documents over a dozen times.

The castle stable only shows a large hill and the well recognizable neck ditch . The cellar vaults of the former castle are said to be preserved under the “Zur Tanne” inn. Presumably it was a tower castle to secure a trade route.

Caution: In the case of written sources, there is a possibility of confusion with the Rauenburg (Ruwenberg, Rauwenburg), which was also in the possession of the von Geroldseck family.
