Æneas Mackay, 13th Lord Reay
Æneas Alexander Mackay, 13th Lord Reay (born December 25, 1905 in Arnhem , † March 10, 1963 in Nairobi ) was a British peer and politician .
He was the eldest son of Eric Mackay, 12th Lord Reay (1870-1921) from his marriage to Maria Johanna Bertha Christina barones van Dedem (1871-1932).
When his father died on November 1, 1921, he inherited the chief dignity of the MacKay clan , as well as its Scottish nobility titles as 13th Lord Reay and 13th Baronet , of Far, and the Dutch title (5th) Baron van Ophemert en Zennewijnen. The inherited assets included in particular the lands of the glory Ophemert en Zennewijnen in the province of Gelderland in the Netherlands , including the Ophemert Castle there.
He grew up in the Netherlands, studied at Utrecht University and did military service there as a reserve lieutenant . After marrying a Scot in 1936, he moved to Roxburghshire , Scotland, and was naturalized as a British subject in 1938 .
From 1939 to 1948 he worked at the British Foreign Office . On May 23, 1955 he was elected as the Scottish Representative Peer to the British House of Lords ; he held this mandate until September 18, 1959.
In 1936 he had married Charlotte Mary Younger, daughter of William Younger of Ravenswood. He had three children with her:
- Hugh Mackay, 14th Lord Reay (1937-2013);
- Hon. Elizabeth Mary Mackay (* 1938) ⚭ Sir Nicholas Fairbairn of Fordell (1933–1995), MP;
- Hon. Margaret Anne Mackay (* 1941) ⚭ Allen Christian.
