The station designed by Patrice Gauthier was created in the form of a tunnel station . The architect chose a surrealistic color scheme in which various pink-red tones dominate. This is intended to evoke emotions inspired by music, an allusion to the two music colleges in the neighborhood. The most striking design element on the platforms are the avant-garde shaped, pink benches. A high shaft leads up to the distribution level , in which the pinkish-red tones are a little paler. One of the three exits is integrated into the university sports center CEPSUM ; the other two are in steel-and-glass pavilions , which have an unusual spindle shape and are also painted pink.

The platform level with two side platforms is 16.6 meters deep . The distances to the neighboring stations, measured from station end to station start, are 1,090.60 meters to Outremont and 667.60 meters to Université-de-Montréal . There are connections to two bus lines and a night bus line of the Société de transport de Montréal . Nearby attractions include the Marie-Victorin Pavilion and the University of Montréal Music Faculty , the CEPSUM, the Vincent-D'Indy College of Music and the Mont-Royal Cemetery .

history

The station opened on January 4, 1988, along with the Parc - Snowdon section of the blue line. It is named after the Boulevard Édouard-Montpetit. This street is named after the political and social scientist Édouard Montpetit (1881–1954), who taught for more than four decades at the Université de Montréal and at the business school attached to it, École des commercial hautes étudeses .

Originally, Édouard-Montpetit was supposed to be developed into a transfer hub. The Mont-Royal-Tunnel , which opened in 1918, crosses under metro line 5 in the immediate vicinity. In the basic network, a metro line 3 was planned to take over the tunnel from the Canadian National Railway . But it was never realized and deleted from the plans. Today the AMT suburban train runs there between the main train station and Deux-Montagnes . The connection of the metro and suburban railway was also not pursued any further for cost reasons, as the difference in height between the two levels is 50 meters.
