The station designed by André Léonard was built using an open construction method and is the highest on the entire metro network. Various light shafts allow daylight to shine through to the distribution level and the platforms. The walls have many different angles. The pavilion at the main entrance, surrounded by many trees, is integrated into the natural slope of the hill on which the university stands. A ramp with a moving walk leads directly into the main building of the university. A third entrance is accessible via a longer access tunnel at the intersection of Avenue Lacombe and Avenue Louis-Colin; the triangular pavilion there consists of roughly hewn stones.

The platform level with two side platforms is 5.4 meters deep . The distances to the neighboring stations, measured from station end to station start, are 667.60 meters to Édouard-Montpetit and 764.60 meters to Côte-des-Neiges . There are connections to two bus lines and a night bus line of the Société de transport de Montréal . Nearby attractions include the various buildings of the University of Montreal , the École polytechnique de Montréal , the École des hautes études commerciales and the Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemetery .

art

Architect André Léonard was also responsible for the artistic design of the station and created two murals made of bricks and terracotta. The larger one with a width of 14.9 meters and a height of 4 meters hangs over the tracks in a light shaft. It is a non-objective representation of the four seasons. The smaller mural (8.2 × 2.7 meters) at the end of the long access tunnel shows arrow motifs that show passengers the way to the trains.

history

The station opened on January 4, 1988, along with the Parc - Snowdon section of the blue line. It is named after the neighboring University of Montreal , which was initially founded in 1876 as a branch of the University of Laval and became independent in 1920. The campus on the north-west side of Mont Royal, which is accessible by the metro , has existed since 1943.
