Eric Bellocq

Éric Bellocq (born September 8, 1962 ) is a French guitarist, lutenist , theorbian player , he is mainly active in the field of historical performance practice as a soloist and continuo accompanist.

Life

Éric Bellocq studied guitar and lute at the Paris Conservatory in the class of Alexandre Lagoya and early music with William Christie until 1983 . From 1983 to 1990 he was a member of various early music ensembles such as Les Arts Florissants , Les Musiciens du Louvre , Les Talens Lyriques , La Grande Écurie et la Chambre du Roy , Café Zimmermann , La Fénice and others.

Parallel to his career in larger formations, Bellocq specialized in solo tasks, so he accompanied the countertenor Dominique Visse in a program that includes works from Guillaume de Machaut to Luciano Berio . With a juggler he created a special program called Le Chant des balles , in which musical improvisation in early music is combined with juggling. Since the 1990s, Bellocq has often accompanied smaller formations around soloists such as the soprano Agnès Mellon , the violinist Hélène Schmitt , the recorder player Maurice Steger and others.

Éric Bellocq is a lecturer at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSMDP) on historical performance practice, lute and related instruments. His discography includes around 30 CD recordings with solo and chamber music and another 30 with larger ensembles.
