Hélène Schmitt is a French violinist who specializes in historical performance practice .

Life

Hélène Schmitt began violin studies at the Conservatory in Metz and finished this at the Paris Conservatory , with a degree in violin and chamber music . She then learned to play the baroque violin and historical performance practice with Chiara Banchini , first in Geneva, then she followed Banchini to the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis . There she also studied figured bass with Jesper Bøje Christensen . She lived and worked for some time in Basel in the vicinity of the Schola Cantorum, then for ten years in Germany, partly in the vicinity ofReinhard Goebel .

Schmitt has appeared at most of the well-known early music festivals, such as the Oude Muziek network in the Netherlands, the Innsbrucker Festwochen, Festival de Saintes, Festival Bach de Lausanne, Festival de Pontoise, Les Grandes Journées de Versailles, Festival d'Ambronay, Festival van Vlaanderen , Festival de Wallonie, Les Folles Journées Nantes and others. In 2010 she went on a tour that took her through various states in North and South America.

Her regular companions include the harpsichordist Jörg-Andreas Bötticher , the lutenist Éric Bellocq and the cellist Gaetano Nasillo . She accompanied the dancer and choreographer Raphaël Cottin in a project with the sonatas for violin without bass by Johann Sebastian Bach. Some of the CD recordings were recorded in the Deutschlandfunk's Cologne studio.

Hélène Schmitt taught baroque violin at the Regional Conservatory (CRR) of Toulon and then taught for seven years at (CRR) Boulogne-Billancourt . She plays an early 18th century violin made by Camillo Camilli. In 2014, the German Violin Assets Foundation provided her with a violin from 1764 attributed to Michel Deconet .
