Dominique Visse

Dominique Visse (born August 30, 1955 in Lisieux ) is a French opera singer ( countertenor ).

Life

At the age of 11, Dominique Visse sang in the church choir of Notre-Dame in Paris and learned the organ and flute at the Versailles Conservatory. He was particularly interested in the music of the Renaissance and the Middle Ages .

He met the countertenor Alfred Deller in 1976 and became his student. He also received lessons from Nigel Rogers , René Jacobs and William Christie .

In 1978 he founded the “ Ensemble Clément Janequin ” with which he made a series of recordings of polyphonic vocal pieces from the 16th century. He still leads the ensemble today. Visse is also one of the founding members of the instrumental and vocal ensemble Les Arts Florissants .

In 1982 he made his stage debut in Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea . Since then, Dominique Visse has appeared on numerous international opera stages and at festivals under well-known conductors and is one of the coveted protagonists of baroque opera and early music . His repertoire also includes works from the 20th century and contemporary music. For example, in 1996 he took part in the world premiere of Luciano Berios Outis at La Scala in Milan . He also performs with recital programs and has published around 50 recordings so far.
