Étienne Jean Bouchu
Étienne Jean Bouchu (born May 23, 1714 in Langres , † September 5, 1773 in Arc-en-Barrois , Champagne-Ardenne region ) was a French ironworking specialist, manufacturer and encyclopaedist .
Live and act
His father was Pierre Bouchu, Conseiller avocat du roi au siège présidial and his mother was Jeanne Goix, probably from the Goix Vauclair family. After marrying Antoinette Nicole Becquet (approx. 1725–1785), the daughter of an ironworker, Maître de forges from Arc-en-Barrois in 1744, he became an ironworker himself. The couple had four children Catherine (* approx. 1750), Thomas (approx. 1755–1801), Marie Anne (* approx. 1760) and René Victor Bouchu (* 1763). He conducted many investigations into the metallurgical industry , and he also analyzed a large number of iron ores from all over Europe.
Étienne Jean Bouchu was a member of the Académie des Sciences and the Académie des Sciences, Arts et Belles-Lettres de Dijon .
He wrote for the Encyclopaedia of Denis Diderot article about the smelting of iron ore and the extraction of iron.
