Hymenoloma is a genus of deciduous mosses from the Oncophoraceae family .
features
The mosses of the genus grow in more or less dense cushions. The leaves are linear-lanceolate to awl-shaped, the leaf margins often two-celled and flat or curved. The surface of the leaf cells is either smooth or has lamellar protrusions. Perichetial leaves are different from the other leaves.
distribution
The genus is distributed in the northern hemisphere and from South America to Antarctica.
Systematics
Some of the current Hymenoloma species were assigned to the genus Dicranoweisia in the past and have only recently been transferred to the genus Hymenoloma according to the systematics presented by Frey, Fischer & Stech . For example, the species, which was not rare in the Alpine region and previously known as Dicranoweisia crispula, is now called Hymenoloma crispulum .
