Hymenoloma crispulum is a moss - kind from the family Oncophoraceae .
Systematics
The species, which was named Dicranoweisia crispula (Hedw.) Milde in the past , was only recently transferred to the genus Hymenoloma according to the systematics presented by Frey, Fischer & Stech and is now called Hymenoloma crispulum .
features
Hymenoloma crispulum forms loose, yellow-green to black-green and up to 4 centimeters high cushion lawn. The dry, curled, moist upright to protruding leaves are drawn out from the egg-shaped to lanceolate base into a long awl tip. The leaf margins are entire, flat or upright, the rib protruding briefly. Leaf-wing cells are clearly differentiated and enlarged. The cells in the lower leaf area are elongated rectangular, in the upper leaf area more or less square. Under the microscope, strip-like longitudinal strips of the lamina can be seen.
The species often fruit. The capsule on the 1 to 1.5 centimeter long seta is erect and oblong ovoid, the peristome teeth are reddish and undivided. Spore ripening time is in spring and summer.
Location claims and distribution
The moss grows on silicate rock in sunny locations. In Central Europe, the occurrences are limited to mountain areas. It is quite common in the Alps and is one of the highest rising mosses. Further north in the boreal and arctic areas, it also settles in low-lying areas. Worldwide there are occurrences in Europe, Asia, North and South America and New Zealand.
