The Île de Beauté was a ferry of the French Société nationale maritime Corse Méditerranée (SNCM), which entered service in 1979 as the Cyrnos . The ship remained in service until June 2013 and was then scrapped in Turkey .

history

The Cyrnos was ordered from Dubigeon-Normandie in Nantes on July 5, 1977 , and launched on November 14, 1978 under construction number 160. After the takeover by SNCM on May 30, 1979, the ship was put into service on June 18, 1979 on the route from Marseille to Tunis .

From September 1989 to June 1990 the Cyrnos was rebuilt at Cie Marsellaise de Reparations in Marseille and lengthened from 138.65 to 159.05 meters. The tonnage increased from 11,819 to 20,564 GRT . On June 18, 1990, the ship resumed regular service under the new name Île de Beauté . In 1992, the ferry was also used as a troop transport from Saudi Arabia to Marseille under a charter from the French government .

In 2001 and 2006 further renovation work took place on the Île de Beauté . During the latter conversion in Genoa, the ship was equipped with a ducktail , among other things . The Île de Beauté then remained in service for another seven years before it was retired in June 2013 and sold to a scrapping yard in Turkey. On July 10, 2013, the ship finally arrived under the transfer name Beau for scrapping in Aliağa .
