Öösel (in German In der Nacht ) is the title of an Estonian silent film from 1931.
Movie
The historical drama was directed by the Estonian-Finnish director Armas Hirvonen (1896–1972), who worked in Finland after the Second World War . Production was in the hands of the Estonian company Eesti Film Produktion , which he founded , but which only existed for a short time. The screenplay was written by the South Estonian writer Endel Loide (1900-1976).
The film premiered in June 1931. It is no longer preserved.

The film is about the terror of the tsarist punishment squads during the Russian Revolution of 1905 . They acted particularly cruelly against the Estonian insurgents who stormed and burned property of the feudal Baltic German nobility, the large landowners of Estonia and Livonia , during the revolution .
Parts of the film that show particularly brutal killing scenes have been censored for public viewing by the Estonian authorities.
