Ömer Nasuhi Bilmen

Ömer (Omar) Nasuhi Bilmen ( Ottoman عمر نسحي بيلمن; * 1883 in the province of Erzurum ; † October 12, 1971 in Istanbul ) was an Islamic religious scholar .

Life

After successfully studying Islamic theology and numerous activities, he was appointed Mufti in Istanbul in 1943 . On June 30, 1960, he assumed the position of Chairman of the Office for Religious Affairs ( Diyanet ) of the Republic of Turkey , and shortly thereafter retired. In addition to Turkish, he also mastered the Ottoman, Arabic , Persian and French languages. During his many years of teaching at various schools and institutes, he wrote several works. Ömer Nasuhi Bilmen died on October 12, 1971 in Istanbul. His specialties included Hanafi law and Maturidic theology .
