Mustafa Sait Yazıcıoğlu

Mustafa Sait Yazıcıoğlu (born February 22, 1949 in Sürmene in Trabzon Province ) is a Turkish politician and Islamic theologian. He was President of the Turkish Presidium for Religious Affairs (1987–1992) and Minister of State for Turks Abroad (2007–2009).

Origin, education and family

Yazıcıoğlu attended both elementary and high school in Milas in western Turkey because of his father's post. 1967–1971 he studied Islamic theology at the Theological Faculty of Ankara University and graduated with the state examination. He was then sent to France from 1972 to 1977 by the Turkish Ministry of Education to obtain his doctorate. In 1977 he was able to return to Ankara University as an assistant. In his academic career, he got his professorship in 1988.

Yazıcıoğlu is married and has two children. He was the brother of the governor of Denizli Recep Yazıcıoğlu, who died on September 8, 2003 and who was known in the people as the Super Governor (Süper Vali) .

Political career

From 1987 to 1992 Yazıcıoğlu headed the Presidium for Religious Affairs (Turkish: Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı ). In the 2002 elections, Yazıcıoğlu was elected to the Turkish parliament for the AKP . From August 29, 2007, he was a member of the Second Erdoğan Cabinet of the AKP government as Minister of State for Turks Abroad. In May 2009 he was replaced in his office by Faruk Çelik .
