Ali Erbaş

Ali Erbaş (born 1961 in Yeşilyurt, Kabadüz District , Ordu Province , Turkey ) is a Turkish Islamic theologian . He is the current 18th President of the Turkish Office for Religious Affairs (Diyanet). Erbaş thus represents the highest Islamic authority in the country from a state and social point of view .

Life

Erbaş attended elementary and middle school in his hometown. In 1980 he graduated from the Imam Hatip High School in Sakarya . In 1984 he completed his studies in Islamic theology at the Marmara University in Istanbul from. He then took up a master's degree in Tafsir sciences.

In 1993 he obtained a doctorate in the history of religion . In the meantime he worked from 1982 to 1993 as a religious representative ( imam ) at various mosques at the Mufti Office in Istanbul.

From 1993 to 1997, during his studies in Paris , he continued his research in the field of religious history and religious studies . When he arrived in his home country, he became a lecturer in 1998 and a professor in 2004 . In the meantime, he held various management positions in the theological faculty of Sakarya University in the field of religious history and philosophy .

From 2011 the Diyanet appointed him chairman of the General Directorate for Education. 2017 he was appointed by the University Council appointed Rector of Yalova University. He continued in this position until his appointment as Diyanet President on September 17, 2017.

Ali Erbaş speaks  two other languages besides  TurkishArabic and French . He is married and has four children.

At the opening of the DITIB Central Mosque in Cologne , Diyanet President Erbaş and President Erdoğan prayed together.

In 2020 he gave a speech at the beginning of the fasting month of Ramadan in which he condemned homosexuality , fornication and the coexistence of men and women without being married. That would lead to a rotting of society and ultimately to diseases and epidemics.
