Felix Koerner

Felix Körner SJ (* 1963 in Offenbach am Main ) is a German theologian and Islamic scholar who is considered one of the best experts on Islam on the Roman Catholic side . He belongs to the Jesuit order .

Life

Körner passed the Abitur at the Leibniz School in Offenbach in 1982 . After doing basic military service, community service and a social internship, he entered the Jesuit order in 1985. He studied in Munich , London , Bamberg and Freiburg i.Ü. Catholic theology , philosophy , Islamic Studies and Turkish Studies and was modern Turkish theologians of the so-called Ankara School PhD. Körner lived in the Jesuit community in Ankara for several years . He is intensively involved in the Christian-Muslim dialogue and has published on Koran exegesis and Koran hermeneutics in Turkey .

From 2002 to 2008 he lived in Ankara and had a teaching position at the Philosophical-Theological University of Sankt Georgen . Since 2008 he has been teaching at the Pontifical Gregorian University (Professor of Dogmatics and Theology of Religions).

In 2008 and 2011 he was one of the delegation participants in the 1st and 2nd seminars of the Catholic-Muslim Forum .

In 2012 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. Appointed to the Pontifical Commission for Religious Relations with Muslims .

He spoke of positive reactions from the Islamic world to the election of Pope Francis .
