The Leibnizschule is an old-language grammar school in the west end of the city of Offenbach am Main . It is named after the German philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz .
history
The history of the school goes back to 1691. At that time, a Latin school was founded in Offenbach in the rectory on Schlossstrasse. This school was converted into a Grand Ducal Hessian secondary school in 1834 . In 1884 this school was divided into the Leibniz School as a Realgymnasium , later a grammar school and the later Rudolf Koch School as a Realschule.
In 1909, today's neo-baroque building with its short side wings, the attached clock tower, its wide open staircase, the ornamental fountain in the foyer and the magnificent portal was inaugurated as the Grand Ducal Boys' High School. The building was modeled on the palace architecture of the 18th century, which was considered the most beautiful school building of its time.
During the Nazi era , the high school was renamed the Hindenburg School . From 1945 to 1947, both schools were reunited as the Offenbach Realgymnasium , after which they were again separated under the short-term names A-Schule (for the Realschule) and B-Schule (for the Gymnasium). In the same year it was renamed to its current name.
The school is now divided into two buildings, the older of which has been the school's headquarters since 1909. The second building was built in 1972 as the number of students increased. The school is attended by around 1400 students (as of 2009). There is a close partnership with the Froebel School for the Practically Educational in Offenbach.
Special
The pupils in the fifth grade are looked after by older people in a mentoring program . The school is a Club of Rome school . This is a special award for schools that put people first. As of this year, the school has been offering an all-day class in addition to a Latin class (Latin as the first foreign language).
New building
The new building of the Leibniz School is now used for teaching the upper level as well as the Q1 and Q2 classes. He has his own staff room and the main secretariat is also there. There are several sections, each dedicated to a specific topic. For example, the C wing is intended for scientific subjects such as biology , chemistry or physics .
