Austrian national association for genetic reserves of farm animals
The ÖNGENE - Austrian National Association for Genetic Reserves of Farm Animals is an association in Thalheim near Wels and was founded on July 1st, 1982.
The purpose is the conservation of endangered livestock breeds and has been working on this project since 1982 . It is supported by NGOs and government organizations. She also works with DAGENE ( gene conservation organization for the Danube countries ).
In 2002, the following nine cattle breeds, seven sheep breeds, four goat breeds, five horse breeds and two pig breeds were looked after:
