The Austrian Taekwondo Association ( ÖTDV ) is the leading association of Taekwondo sports in Austria. He is a member of the Austrian Federal Sports Organization and the Austrian Olympic Committee .

history

The Austrian Taekwondo Association was founded in 1969. The ÖTDV is a member of the European umbrella organization European Taekwondo Union (ETU) as well as the Olympic world umbrella organization World Taekwondo Federation (WTF). On the part of the Austrian Olympic Committee (ÖOC), the ÖTDV is the only Taekwondo association authorized to send athletes to the Olympic Games . Therefore, the ÖTDV organizes all relevant Taekwondo championships in Austria. The association is based in Innsbruck . The Austrian Taekwondo Association hosted the 1986 European Championship in Seefeld in Tyrol .

Olympic games

With a second place at the European qualification tournament in Porec 1999 Çalışkan Tuncay could qualify for the Olympic Games 2000 in Sydney in the weight class -68 kg. After a 3-7 opening defeat against the later South Korean silver medalist Sin Joon-sik, Çalışkan was able to maintain the chance of the bronze medal over the consolation round. After a 6-0 win over Russia's Dzitiev Rand and a 4-4 win after the referee's decision over the German Aziz Acharki, Çalışkan met Hadi Saei from Iran in the small final. By a 2-4 defeat Çalışkan missed the medal and was therefore relegated to fourth place.

In 2003, at the European qualification tournament in Baku Çalışkan Tuncay with a second place and Lukic Nevena with a third place, two athletes qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. Çalışkan met Central African Bertrand Gbongou Liango in the opening fight in the -68 kg weight class. After a 1–4 deficit in the third round of the fight, Çalışkan was able to turn the tide by kicking his opponent's head. His opponent was severely knocked out and remained unconscious on the competition area for several minutes. Liango was then taken to a nearby hospital where she was diagnosed with a concussion. In the quarterfinals, Çalışkan Huang Chih-hsiung from Taiwan had to admit defeat 8-10, which then reached the final. Çalışkan had another chance to get bronze in the consolation round. However, he lost his next fight against the Egyptian Tamer Hussein with 4-8 points.

Lukic Nevena won her opening fight against Lineo Mochesane from Lesotho in the –49 kg weight class with 4-0. In the quarterfinals Lukic lost after a 1-1 draw by the referee against her Guatemalan opponent Euda Carías.

Today the ÖTDV has over 8000 members in 135 clubs, the largest national association being the Tyrolean Taekwondo Association (TTDV) with 34 clubs. The following nine regional associations are members of the ÖTDV:
