The ÖZIV Federal Association - Representation of the interests of people with disabilities (until 2015: Austrian Civil Disabled Association ) is an Austria-wide umbrella organization that represents the interests of disabled people. The ÖZIV is one of the largest disability organizations in Austria.

history

The ÖZIV was created through the amalgamation of regional self-help groups and "cripple associations": In 1949 the forerunner of today's ÖZIV Vienna was constituted , in 1962 the regional organization Vienna was established. The ÖZIV regional organization Upper Austria, founded in 1948, served as a model. As early as 1961, ÖZIV regional organizations were founded in Salzburg , Tyrol and Styria . With the establishment of the Federal Secretariat of the ÖZIV in 1962, the foundation stone for the current structure of the ÖZIV was laid. The development towards Austria-wide representation of interests continued: 1966 the regional group Carinthia was founded and 1975 the ÖZIV Vorarlberg. In 1979 the ÖZIV Burgenland was founded in Eisenstadt . In 1995, the last step in the development of an Austria-wide organization for the disabled was taken: the ÖZIV Niederösterreich emerged from the Vienna regional organization as a separate association.

organization

The association represents around 20,000 members. Austria-wide activities are planned and coordinated by the ÖZIV Federal Association. The federal association, a legally independent association, includes the individual regional groups, some sections and supporting members. There are regional, district and local groups in the federal states. ÖZIV stands for Austria-wide, future-oriented representation of interests for people with disabilities.

Advocacy

The association works to ensure that people with disabilities are offered the framework conditions for a self-determined and equitable lifestyle. Its structure (state organizations, district groups, local groups and sections) is intended to enable the ÖZIV to operate at federal, state and municipal level. In this way, the interests of disabled people should flow not only into federal, but also into state and local politics. The ÖZIV is z. B. represented in the Federal Disability Advisory Board, in the dismissal committee, in the ÖAR and in the social and health forum in the main association of Austrian social insurance agencies . In 1993 the ÖZIV and the ÖZIV officials were involved in the creation of the Care Allowance Act. The ÖZIV was also involved in the implementation of the Disability Equality Act (BBStG).
