Austrian Committee for Social Work

The Austrian Committee for Social Work (ÖKSA) is an Austrian umbrella organization of governmental and non-governmental organizations for social policy . The non-partisan, nationwide association is based in Vienna .

history

The association was founded in 1956 and in the same year was active under the name ÖKSA / Social Service for Hungarian Refugees in cooperation with the United Nations for refugee issues for the integration of the refugees of the Hungarian popular uprising . The committee became a member of the International Council on Social Welfare , an international umbrella organization that was founded in Paris in 1928 and has advisory status at the United Nations for the social sector in the Platform of European Social NGOs .

Members

The Presidium is made up of representatives from the five large charities Caritas Austria , Evangelical Relief Organization Austria , Volkshilfe Austria , Aid Organization Austria , Austrian Red Cross and two large organizations from the disabled work with youth at work and Lebenshilfe Austria . In addition, the representatives of the state with the Federal Ministry for Social Security, Generations and Consumer Protection and the three largest federal states Lower Austria , Upper Austria and Vienna , with the task of representing all nine states.

Working method

At the meetings of the Presidium with twelve representatives, social experts and political decision-makers sit around one table. The circle widens considerably at conferences. It is about an exchange of experiences, as well as giving knowledge and demands to the politicians of the federal and state governments. Topics were issues related to elderly and disabled people, the situation of care itself, as well as poverty and social exclusion and child and youth work.
