Eastern North American watershed
The Eastern Continental Divide ( Eastern Continental Divide ) located to the east of North America . It separates the catchment areas of the rivers that flow into the North Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico . Smaller rivers such as the Hudson River , the Potomac River or the Savannah River flow directly into the Atlantic ; the rivers draining into the Gulf of Mexico mostly belong to the catchment area of the Mississippi River .
From the watershed point in northern Pennsylvania (at 41 ° 50 ′ 48 ″ N , 77 ° 50 ′ 14 ″ W ) the watershed runs along the Appalachian ridge - particularly the Allegheny Mountains - south and ends at the Kissimmee River in Florida , which runs over Lake Okeechobee drained into both the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico.
As the largest city, Atlanta lies on the Eastern Continental Divide.
