Øjvind Moestrup (born December 15, 1941 in Marvede , Denmark ) is a Danish botanist specializing in marine biology .

Life

Øjvind Moestrup grew up as the son of a vicar on Funen and in Jutland . From 1962 he studied biology at the University of Copenhagen . On the advice of Professor Tyge Christensen , he accepted a scientific position at the university and wrote his thesis under Irene Manton at the University of Leeds on the ultrastructure of Vaucheria . With his work on the reconstruction of the flagella in various flagellates , such as Chrysochromulina, Mamiella, Nephroselmis, Pyramimonas, Pseudoscourfieldia and Bicosoeca, he received his doctorate in 1983 at the University of Copenhagen. From 1970 to 1974 he was assistant professor and from 1976 to 1979 he was chairman of the Institute for Sporeplanter . This was followed by two further terms as chairman from 1985 to 1987 and from 1989 to 1991. From 1991 he was then professor of biology at the University of Copenhagen. During his research time, he published over 100 scientific papers, particularly on phytoplankton , haptophyta , diatoms and Raphidophyceae . From 1992 to 1996 he was editor-in-chief of the journal Phycologia and later co-editor.
