The Cafeteriaceae are a family of flagellates from the stramenopile group . The family includes around ten species in four genera . All species of the family live as part of the phytoplankton in the ocean.

features

The representatives are unicellular flagellates of the bicosoecida group , which are characterized by the lack of a lorica (goblet-like cell envelope).

The family was described as Cafeteriaceae according to the ICBN , a description according to the ICZN as Cafeteriidae was not published.
