The Theuern overtaking station is an overtaking station at km 123.3 of the new Ebensfeld – Erfurt line . It was built near the district of Theuern in the municipality of Schalkau and therefore bears his name.

The station is one of four overtaking stations on the route. Its construction in an up to 27 m deep incision was associated with great effort.

Location and structure

Southern station area, with the north portal of the Baumleitetunnel (2017)

Immediately to the north of the station are the Truckenthal viaduct and then the Bleßberg tunnel , followed by the Baumleit tunnel to the south .

With a length of 1340 m, the station has a usable length of around 750 m. In the area of the station there is a modular building for a remote electronic interlocking (ESTW-A) and a base station for public mobile radio and a weather station.

A trapezoidal turnout in the area of the Baumleite tunnel, which was included in the original planning, was omitted from the planning in 2013 in order to enable emergency vehicles to pass through the tunnel throughout. Trains will only be able to switch between the two main tracks in the northern part of the station, between the northern abutment of the Truckenthal viaduct and the southern portal of the Blessberg tunnel. Likewise, two planned one-sided sidings with points assembly areas at the southern abutment of the Truckenthal Bridge were not implemented.

construction

The construction of the station required an incision up to 27 m deep in the southern part and an embankment up to eight meters high in the northern part. A total of 1.85 million cubic meters of earth was moved. As a rule , this was shell limestone , which had to be loosened beforehand with loosening blasts. In the course of the construction work, 32,500 m² of protective layers, 2900 m of drainage channels and around 2500 m of construction roads were built.

The Galgenberg landfill was created on the plateau on both sides of the overtaking station . Around 2.5 million m³ of waste material from the Baumleitetunnel and the Theuern cut were stored on an area of around 44.2  hectares . The formerly largely agricultural areas were flooded to a height of up to 13 m.

To convert an interrupted by the newly established cut agricultural road on the overtaking was a 102 m long and 6 m wide, three-span frame bridge with cable stems.

The last major demolition took place on March 14, 2008. With one ton of explosives, 10,600 tons of rock were loosened from the embankment, which had previously served as an access ramp for construction vehicles. The construction work on the viaduct, overtaking station and overpass should be completed in 2009.

Drainage ditches were dug in spring 2008. In autumn 2008 the heavy earthworks were completed and in 2009 the rest of the work, such as the construction of the road bridge.
