Theuern is a district of Schalkau in the Sonneberg district in Thuringia .

location

Theuern is located northeast of Schalkau on Landesstrasse 1112 . This road leads over the Thuringian Forest to Scheibe-Alsbach and further. In Schalkau it connects to the federal highway 89 . The district of Theuern is equipped with narrow mountain valleys, meadows, forests and, on higher levels, with arable land. Southern slopes are influenced by the favorable Franconian climate during the growing season.

history

Theuern was first mentioned in a document in 1425. A rampart on the Herrenberg south-east on the Eisfelder Pleß , at the exit of the Grümpen river from the Thuringian Forest, proves the importance. Even finds prove the use of the square in pre-Roman times. On January 1, 1992 Theuern was incorporated into Schalkau. The rural, near-natural place uses agriculture, forestry and tourism as a source of income. The Goldmuseum Theuern is located in the village .
