Neundorf is a district of Schalkau in the Sonneberg district in Thuringia .
geography
Neundorf is about five kilometers north of Schalkau and one kilometer east of Mausendorf on the southern edge of the Bleßberg ( 866.9 m above sea level ), close to the border with the Hildburghausen district . The district road 11 leads through the village to Theuern . The partly steep slopes are based on the geological layer structure: the rock layers investigated to the southwest and northeast of the locality come from the Upper Muschelkalk and strike above ground. Immediately to the south of the village, the stream flowing through the village falls - a tributary of the Truckenthaler Wasser in the Neundorfer Grund . The gorge, which is narrow and steep, especially in the upper part, is about two kilometers in length and extends to the outskirts of Truckenthal. To the east of Neundorf, the Herrenberg ( 673.1 m above sea level ) rises as a spur-like foothill of the Bleßberg.
In a forest description from 1555, mainly spruce and fir trees were mentioned in mixed stands in the forest of the Bleßberg. This forest area had naturally grown stands with a well-mixed proportion of young and old wood. On the night of June 13-14, 1946, a hurricane hit the highlands of the Thuringian Forest in the Oberhof and Suhl area in southern Thuringia . The devastating storm had withdrawn to the northeast and had touched the Bleßberg while 12 hectares of forest were destroyed by windthrow.
history
In the Henneberg fiefdom register , the place belonging to the district of Schalkau Castle Schaumberg was first mentioned in 1317 as "Nüwendorf". The place initially only consisted of a farmstead and was a fief of the Schaumbergs . Probably only at the end of the Thirty Years' War , in the course of which Schalkau and the castle were also taken, the place Neundorf received influx of further settlers, who were given only limited rights and opportunities as people behind . The agricultural yields were inadequate, so in the 18th century the first residents began to have new opportunities to earn a living by taking over home business. From 1830 toy manufacturing developed in nearby Schalkau and earlier in Sonneberg . The manufacture of wooden toys and chip boxes now became the main source of income for the residents of Neundorf. The necessary wood was supplied by Bleßberg, paints and tools were provided by the publisher, who also took over the transport and trade and set the prices. The residents of Neundorf were parish and schooled according to stilts . In 1910 the place still had 53 inhabitants, in 1939 there were 52 inhabitants and in 2012 27 people lived in Neundorf.
During the GDR territorial reform, the place was incorporated into Mausendorf on July 1, 1950. On June 1, 1992, Mausendorf was incorporated into Schalkau.
In 1954, the National People's Army (NVA) set up the “Young Guard” pioneer camp in Truckenthal for the children of their employees. In 1958 it was operated by the VEB synthetic fiber factory "Wilhelm Pieck" in Rudolstadt-Schwarza .
