Roth is a district of Schalkau in the Sonneberg district in Thuringia .

location

Roth is located southeast of Schalkau on Kreisstraße 17 across the Grümpen river on a ridge. Right next door is the Oberroth hamlet . The houses are on the edge of the Müß forest area . The climate there is so mild that asparagus and strawberries are preferred.

history

The hamlet was mentioned in a document for the first time in 1141. In 1922 the neighboring hamlet of Oberroth was incorporated and from 1923 to 1932 Roth was merged with Almerswind and Selsendorf to form the Roth-Almerswind community. On January 1, 1992, Roth was incorporated into Schalkau.

83 inhabitants live in the district in 2012.
