Üecht (Old High German: Morgendämmerung, Morgenweide) was an artists' association that was founded in Stuttgart in the summer of 1919 as a local branch of the Berlin November Group and existed until 1924 .

history

The artists' association had its origins at the Stuttgart Academy . Critical voices rose especially from the Hölzelkreis, who advocated a fundamental reorganization of the institution. The Hölzel students Oskar Schlemmer, Willi Baumeister and Gottfried Graf preceded this movement as spokesmen and even formulated the most radical demand for the dissolution of the academy and the separation of academy and state. The unexpected resignation of Adolf Hölzel intensified the reform wishes of the students who tried to enforce the reappointment through letters of protest to the professors of the academy and to the minister of education Berthold Heymann . After their rejection, the academy reformers tried to appoint Paul Klee to succeed Adolf Hölzel. In order to emphasize its cultural-political objectives, the Üecht group organized the "First Autumn Show of New Art" in October 1919 with the support of the Berliner Sturm.

Members

The circle of revolutionary artists of the Üecht group included Oskar Schlemmer , Willi Baumeister , Gottfried Graf , Edmund Daniel Kinzinger , Albert Mueller (1884–1963), Hans Spiegel and the architect Richard Herre .
