The ČD series 151 was created from 1996 to 2002 through a conversion from the ČSD series E 499.2 (new name: 150). A locomotive of this series (150.020) was converted to a maximum speed of 160 km / h as early as 1992, but work on the reconstruction did not begin until 1994. The aim of the reconstruction was to increase reliability in operation and reduce maintenance costs.

technical features

151.011 in the current "Najbrt design" in Žilina (2013)

The main difference to the 150 is the changed gear ratio, which enables a top speed of 160 km / h. The electrical resistance brake can be switched in 3 stages and works down to a speed of 25 km / h. It is also effective when braking quickly. The locomotive has a microprocessor-controlled slide protection . Some of the vehicles were equipped with monoblock wheels instead of the spoked wheels that were customary up to now.

commitment

The locomotives are preferably used in front of the high-speed trains on the route Praha - Bohumín - Žilina , as this route is fully electrified with 3 kV direct current. Some locomotives are equipped with the ETCS Level 2 train protection system as a supplement to the existing LS 90 train protection system.

According to an announcement in April 2016, the locomotives are to be equipped with ETCS throughout.
