Hans Prutz

Hans Prutz (born May 20, 1843 in Jena , † January 29, 1929 in Stuttgart ) was a German historian and university professor.

Life

The son of the liberal writer Robert Prutz studied from 1860 to 1863 at the University of Jena and the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Berlin history . He had been a member of the Germania Jena fraternity since 1860 and later remained closely associated with the fraternity movement. In 1863 he was in Berlin with a thesis on Henry the Lion doctorate . From 1863 to 1872 Prutz worked as a high school teacher in Danzig . From 1872 he was a senior teacher at the Friedrich Werderscher Gewerbeschule in Berlin. In 1873 he completed his habilitation in history at the Berlin University. In 1874 he undertook a research trip to Syria and Tire on behalf of the Chancellery in order to find the presumed grave site of Emperor Frederick I together with Johann Nepomuk Sepp .

In 1877 Prutz was appointed full professor of history at the Albertus University in Königsberg . In 1888/89 he was its rector . Prutz became a Freemason in Königsberg . In 1902 he had to give up the Königsberg chair because of an eye problem and moved to Munich . From 1922 he lived in Stuttgart . In his Prussian history he turned against the myth of "Prussia's German profession".

Prutz had been a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences since 1921 .
